Isaac Denton

East Tennessee is part of Appalachia. At the end of the French and Indian War, colonists began drifting into the area. In 1769, they first settled along the Watauga River. During the Revolution, the Overmountain Men defeated British loyalists at the Battle of Kings Mountain. The State of Franklin was formed in the 1780s, but never admitted to the Union.

Isaac Denton was born about 1733 in what was then Orange County, Virginia. It became Frederick and then Shenandoah County. He was the son of Abraham Denton and Mary Odell.

He married Ann Whitson.

Martha Denton (1759),
Jeremiah Denton (1762),
Isaac Denton, Jr. (1768, married Martha Crouch),
Agnes Denton (1770, married James Crouch),
Susannah Denton.

In 1774 Elizabeth married Littleberry White in Nash, North Carolina.

"Four years later [1779?] Buffalo Ridge Church was constituted. Some of the prominent members were Anthony Epperson, Isaac Denton, Joseph Crouch, Peter Jackson, William Nash, David Parry and Nicholas Hale." (History of Washington County)

Isaac's will was proved in May, 1795 in Washington County, Tennessee (Will Book 1, p. 54). He mentioned his wife, Ann, and children Isaac, Jeremiah, Martha, Agnes, Elizabeth, and. Susannah. The executors were Jesse Whitson and David Jobe.

Two Sons Isaac and Jeremiah: all lands to be equally divided.
Wife Ann: to have estate in her possession, 20 pounds or 66 dollars and 4 shillings for the upkeep of my son Isaac.
Children: Jeremiah, Isaac, Martha, Agge, Elizabeth, to equally divide the rest of the estate.
On the death of my wife Susana Rider shall have 10 pounds..
